Winona's Magical Self Re-Wrapping Headscarf
In Great Balls of Fire Winona Ryder has her first ever headscarf scene, wearing a fabulous Kelly wrap in a nice, long scene with plenty of close-ups. While in my opinion one of the best movie headscarf scenes, it also features some of the most evident scarf-related bloopers. I'm still surprised that no movie blooper site has picked upon it yet.
We're about 1 hour and 22 minutes into the movie. Winona Ryder, who plays Jerry Lee Lewis' underage wife, is at the London Airport about to depart towards Memphis.
Check out Winona's headscarf: it's a Kelly, slightly loose around the neck, crossed with left end under and right end over, pulled back a little.
Now, some seconds later, take a look at Noni's wrap: it's always a Kelly, but tighter around her throat and now it's left end over and right end under, and it's slightly pulled forward. And it's not a mirror shot, the wrap is really different (look also at her hair).
Later, at Memphis Airport. It's also a Kelly head-wrap, but tied differently (of course, she wouldn't have worn it during the plane ride, even though I'd gladly pay to see 8 straight hours of Winona wearing and re-tying that scarf). It's a nice-looking tie, tight around the neck, the ends fluttering, pulled slightly forward with the scarf rolled back at the cheeks, and the tail end almost free.
Here's another good look at Winona's wrap. See how it's tied? The almost loose tail end looks great as it flutters in the wind: still pictures do not render it justice.
Now, just some seconds later, she walks through the airport. Now the scarf is pulled back and is wrapped tighter.
See? Tighter and pulled back, with the tail end tucked in under the knot at the nape of her neck. Winona is just fabulous, but not at the point of being able to adjust or re-tie her head-wrap in the blink of an eye!
