ABOUT THIS SITE
This site was first conceived early in 2000. I had developed quite a fascination with women wearing headscarves, mainly as a result of dating several girls who were into "the look" (it's cold and windy around here) and after seeing some of the pioneering sites like the Scarf Web Site and the Scarf Fashion Site I thought about building my own website. It would have nothing to do with nudity, bondage or anything of the sort. There's abundant place on the Web for those things, but my site would have just been a celebration of fashion, glamour, the allure of the headscarf-wearing woman.
Unfortunately, I had no idea how to go about it. I enlisted the help of a computer-knowledgeable friend, by the name of David (who also had an interest, three girlfriends he had dated were into "the look" too), who assisted with everything technical. He taught me about the basics of web design, FTP, managing a site and other things and managed to find a host which would allow unlimited space and enough bandwidth.
The design was simple, because I couldn't afford to call him everytime I had some problem with it. Besides, I only had a dial-up connection at the time and putting up new material was a heavy task. We already had some images taken from the web, which would go into the Webfinds section, some scans, and a lot of scenes on tape. David came up with the Snappy Video Snapshot, a framegrabber made by Play Inc. which could grab images at a higher resolution than any other device at the time, and thus the Videocaptures section was born.
The site went online on September the 9th, 2000, and late that month the Contributions section was open to host images sent by friends by e-mail.
At its beginning, Rodan657's Web Scarf Gallery was a bit of a mess: it was updated erratically, and adding images was a chore: I had used Netscape Composer under Windows 3.1 (!) to design the site and it was bound by a lot of limitations. File names were only 8 characters long, each image had to be resized and renamed by hand, and then all the images had to be put into the page one by one. When I upgraded my computer and got hold of the new Photoshop in April 2001 with its web gallery function, things changed for the better.
Unfortunately the original host changed its policy regarding space and hosting, and I had to find a new one. This too developed problems, and the site migrated from host to host. It went completely offline from March 2004 to February 2005. The new host has been performing very well and the site has undergone many changes, because I finally have a DSL line.
So, that's more or less all about the site. Getting content online is now quicker and easier, and thanks to DVD technology the new videocaptures are better than ever. I'm thinking of new features to add, but I'd like to hear your comments. Mail me!
